Getting the kickoff right

As every producer knows, one of the biggest parts of the job is in the preparation. Interviewing stakeholders, identifying requirements, defining scope and pulling the team together. One of the key elements of this part of a project, which can either set you up for success or failure, is the "kickoff meeting".

"In theory, this meeting should have all the energy, excitement, and potential of the opening salvo of the Superbowl. Project team members should be inspired coming out of that meeting, full of ideas, and a desire to begin exploring solutions."  Kevin Hoffman

While there are lots of resources online on how to prepare and run a good kickoff meeting, over on A List Apart, Kevin Hoffman has outlined a fantastic approach to kickoffs which go that step further and really help pull the team and stakeholders together. It's a great read and really worthwhile if you feel your projects are not getting off in the right direction. Go on, check it out.
